Putting a jumper on your dog is considered unnecessary frippery. However, on cooler days it can make sense to provide your dog with a warm or waterproof layer.

Dog clothing - useful or not?

We certainly don't need a warm jumper for our two woolly tots - even on cooler days or in the snow - when they'd love to curl up in a snow cave all day. For us, a dog bathrobe or raincoat makes more sense. But that's also because they're both young, with no joint problems or chronic illnesses.

On the other hand, an older dog who suffers from osteoarthritis, osteoporosis or arthritis, for example, can certainly be helped by appropriate clothing for the cold days, regardless of its coat, to keep the affected joints warm and thus support the musculoskeletal system in the long term, as well as reducing muscle cramps and possible pain due to pre-existing stress.

It is also suitable for small dogs, whose sensitive belly area cools down due to their proximity to the cold ground, dogs with little or no undercoat, or dogs that are particularly sensitive to cold in general.
