You don't necessarily need a dedicated SUP carrier to transport a board on suitable crossbars. For the occasional trip, proper rack pads and tie-down straps can be a perfectly sensible solution.

The SUPDawg starts to make more sense when paddling becomes a regular part of your week. The padded supports stay on the roof, the straps are integrated into the carrier, and up to two SUPs can travel securely on top of the vehicle. Do the SUPDawg rollers help with loading a paddle board?

Will the Yakima SUPDawg fit my car's roof rack?

SUPDawg fits many round, aerodynamic, factory, and square crossbars and requires a minimum crossbar spread of 61 cm. It is not compatible with square crossbars deeper than 38 mm. Is SUPDawg a good choice for a tall SUV or van?

It can be, provided you can comfortably lift your SUP to roof height and your crossbars are compatible. If getting a large board onto a tall vehicle is the real challenge, SUPDawg's rollers may not be enough. In that case, the Yakima ShowDown and its true load-assist design may be the better fit.

Can I transport an inflated SUP on a roof rack?
